5 Bible Verses About Rest

5 Ways to Rest & Recover This Weekend

The work week can be brutal. Whether you work a traditional Monday – Friday, 9-5 job, or have days off midweek, you can prioritize time to rest & recover on your days off. We all want more sleep, but figuring out how to rest can still be so elusive for many of us. This weekend, get a good night’s rest by clicking play on any of the below meditations. Then, simply close your eyes and let us guide you in God’s Word. We release two new bedtime stories each week on the Abide app. With Abide premium, you’ll get access to these bedtime stories (and more) anytime on the app.

Psalm 33:8

This weekend, rest easy—without worries or anxiety—knowing God is watching over you. In Psalm 33:8, we’re reminded to “Let all the earth fear the Lord; let all the people of the world revere him.” Rest & recover as you relax into this promise, letting your everyday worries fade away as you drift off to sleep. As you center your heart and mind on the Word of God, remember that he is mighty—working all things for good for those who love him.

1 John 4:18

Grab your kids—or maybe just a cup of tea—and click play on this bedtime story, designed for kids, but perfect for all ages. Click play, take a deep breath, and then get cozy under your covers. As you climb aboard the Skyship Dreamer, listen to the story of the Turtle and the Rabbit. At a time when no one else would speak up, the Turtle does! Meditate on the reminder of 1 John 4:18, “There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear.” Whenever you are afraid or stressed or simply can’t rest, remember that verse. And remember that God is the One who loves you perfectly.

Matthew 11:28

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” You’ve probably heard that verse before. Tonight, you’re invited to meditate on the words of Matthew 11, as you click play on the sleep music below. Fall asleep to the relaxing sleep sounds of the Holy Spirit raining down, as you soak in God’s comforting promise. God gave you the gift of rest. How will you use that gift this weekend?

Matthew 11:29-30

In Matthew 29, Jesus asks us to “Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” When you’re feeling exhausted—beaten down, stuck, or hopeless—take rest in these comforting words. You are not stuck forever. And God is with you in those valleys, even when it seems like he is nowhere to be found. Sometimes God uses these situations to pull you even closer to him. He wants to do more than fix your situation, he wants you to trust him in your darkest moments—resting in him. God’s got you, the rest is all yours—tonight and always. Take a minute to listen to this short inspirational word from Abide.

Matthew 17:20

As you listen to a short sample of this sleep meditation about having faith based on Hebrews 11, release the burdens that you’ve carried with you this week—letting God renew your strength. Be reminded that God is always with you, no matter how much faith you have. For even the smallest bit of faith is powerful, since God is so big. In Matthew 17:20, Jesus explains, “Because you have so little faith. Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.” Regardless of what you’re going through, grab on to your faith and rest in it, for God is always with you and he will never leave you.
