In a world where influence surrounds us from various sources like the media, friends, family, and subtle advertising, there are endless attempts to shape our thoughts and actions. However, in Matthew 5:13-16, Jesus presents a different perspective:

“You are the salt of the earth, but if salt has lost its taste, how shall its saltiness be restored? It is no longer good for anything except to be thrown out and trampled under people’s feet. You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.”

Jesus, considered one of history’s most influential figures, modeled authentic relationships, compassion, and a transformative way of life that differed from the rigid traditions of the past. Then you find a distant city’s light in the darkness, symbolizing finding hope and security amid doubt and fear. 

Just as the city’s light brings relief and certainty to travelers, followers of Jesus have the opportunity to be beacons of hope and peace in a broken world. Embracing your faith and reflecting Christ’s love can serve as a guiding light for others, offering solace and direction in challenging times. In a society filled with noise and chaos, being a source of light and positivity can have a profound impact on those searching for stability and comfort. 

God, Thank You for giving me a mind that can change. Being influenced can truly be a gift if it turns my attention and affection away from the things of the world and toward Your glorious truth. Lead me as I respond to Your Word, and shape me in the way of Jesus. I want my light to shine before men, that they see my good deeds and glorify You! Amen
