Gaze on God’s Faithfulness Before Closing Your Eyes

Having trouble getting a good night’s sleep? Download Abide for Christian sleep meditations that use calming techniques and Scripture verses framed in soothing stories to lull you into a peaceful slumber.

As a child, I’d look out my bedroom window hoping to catch a glimpse of the first star to appear in the night sky. I found it fascinating that one by one, stars would appear until they were too numerous to count. Even then, star gazing calmed my mind and helped me fall asleep.

When I became a Christ follower, I was introduced to the Maker of the stars and read inspiring passages such as Psalm 148:3, which says, “Praise Him, sun and moon; Praise Him, all you stars of light”(NKJV)!

It was this kind of imagery that filled my heart with praise and reminded me of the incredibility of God’s creation.

Before closing your eyes, look outside and see how many stars you can see. Recall the Psalmist’s words and join the heavens in joyful praise. This is a peaceful way to relax your mind, calm your spirit, and gaze on God’s faithfulness.

A man stands in silhouette against a the night sky filled with stars as he gazes on God's faithfulness along with the stars.

Here are three ways He is faithful to you:

God Is Faithful to Love You

Every person I know has a deep desire to be loved and known. Our Creator hard-wired this longing into us. The good thing is we have a beautiful covenant of love from God Himself as noted in Deuteronomy 7:9, which says, “Understand, therefore, that the Lord your God is indeed God. He is the faithful God who keeps His covenant for a thousand generations and lavishes His unfailing love on those who love Him and obey His commands” (NLT).

Before you close your eyes, gaze on God’s faithfulness through His covenant of love that looks like a heart-shaped path that expands and lengthens as you continue to walk with Him. There is no limit to His love for you, and you can sleep soundly knowing His love never fails.

God Is Faithful to Protect You

Worrying about the safety of our loved ones often prevents us from falling asleep. However, 2 Thessalonians 3:3 says, “But the Lord is faithful, and He will strengthen you and protect you from the evil one” (NIV).

Gaze on God’s faithfulness which includes trusting Him for safety and peace. As you prepare for bed, think about the ways God has protected you in the past. Ask Him to put a hedge of protection around you now. And trust Him to continue to guard your life.

The Maker of the stars is faithful to watch over you, strengthening and protecting you as you sleep.

God Is Faithful to Call You

If you’ve ever been camping at night, especially in the mountains, you might have had the pleasure of seeing the expanse of stars like never before. It’s truly an awesome sight to see the heavens in such vast array!

The thought that God numbers and names each one makes this scene even more incredible (Psalm 147:4, NKJV). Think about that for a moment; if the God of the universe counts the stars and calls them each by name, there’s no doubt He counts you as His precious child and calls you according to His divine purpose.
