Recall a time you were outside when it was completely dark, and you couldn’t see a thing. Moments like this can be scary, right? In a world where darkness can be unsettling, the presence of light brings comfort and guidance. Just as light eliminates physical darkness, spiritually, Christ is described as pure light in the Bible. The Apostle John, who walked with Jesus, emphasized this truth in 1 John 1:5:

“This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all.”

1 John 1:5, New International Version

The analogy of light extends to our souls, with Jesus embodying love, hope, and peace. Just as physical light prevents stumbling and shadows, Christ illuminates our spiritual lives, providing warmth and solace. Reflecting on the impact of light, both physically and spiritually, draws gratitude toward Jesus, the ultimate source of light.

Acknowledging sin and seeking forgiveness from God, who is abundant in grace and mercy, allows for a cleansing of the soul. Our most joy-filled moments in life often coincide with a closeness to Christ, who lights our paths and protects us through life’s journey. By shining Christ’s light through good deeds and kindness toward others, we become messengers of hope in a world in need.

During dark times, seeking guidance and wisdom from Jesus, similar to a lighthouse guiding a ship to shore, brings reassurance and joy. The message delivered by the Apostle John serves as an eyewitness account of spiritual truths, emphasizing the importance of living in the light of Christ daily. A life without Christ’s light is as unimaginable as living in complete darkness, highlighting the vital role of Christ as the Light of the World and of our souls. God is holy. He is light. He is your light. Let Him guide your way.

Dear Father, Thank You for being the light of the world—and the light of my soul. I confess that sometimes I get too busy and push Your light out of my life. Forgive me. This week, draw me closer. Shine Your light on my life. Illuminate my path. Help me shine Your light for others. It is in Jesus’ name that I pray. Amen.
