You can bloom wherever God plants you, if you plant your roots firmly in God. Being rooted in faith allows all the nutrients God has for you in His Word and through His Spirit to flow.

In Psalm 92:12-14, the psalmist looked around and saw the wicked growing like grass and evildoers flourishing. But by faith, he remembered that wickedness will not flourish forever; those who plant themselves in God’s garden will ultimately thrive. The Psalmist proclaims:

“But the godly will flourish like palm trees and grow strong like the cedars of Lebanon. For they are transplanted to the Lord’s own house. They flourish in the courts of our God. Even in old age they will still produce fruit; they will remain vital and green.”

Psalm 92:12-14, The Living Bible

What is it like to dwell in the courts of God, and bloom there? Jesus said it was like staying connected to the true vine. He advised His followers to remain in Him just as He remains in them. Branches cannot thrive on their own without staying connected to the vine, and neither can we produce good works if we disconnect from Jesus. We must remain rooted in faith.

Moreover, Jesus promised that if we remain rooted in faith and His teachings remain in us, we can ask what we want according to His will and He will do it for us. This brings glory to God when we continually bear much fruit and live as true followers of Christ.

Above all, Jesus emphasized the love that He has for His disciples by comparing it to the unconditional love of His Father. He urged them to remain in this love as they continue to follow Him on their journey of faith.

God, Wherever I am, I believe that I can flourish and bloom if I plant my roots firmly in You. Keep me from discontent and doubt; keep me from thinking that the grass is greener somewhere else. Help me to bloom here; bless me so that I can be a blessing to those around me. In Jesus’ name I pray: amen.
