Anxiety is a growing concern, causing excessive worry and apprehension. Unlike fear, anxiety isn’t always triggered by a specific threat. Do you battle with anxiety?

In Luke 12:25-26, Jesus tells the people:

“And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life? If then you are not able to do as small a thing as that, why are you anxious about the rest.”

Luke 12:25-26, English Standard Version

Chronic anxiety can negatively impact our health, but God desires our well-being. In our verse in Luke 12, Jesus advises against worry for a good reason: it can’t add a single hour to our lives! Just like we strive for a healthy lifestyle for longevity, uncontrolled anxiety can be overwhelming and even shorten our lives. Overcoming anxiety is crucial for a fulfilling life.

Prayer is a powerful tool to help battle with anxiety, but professional help might also be necessary. Some conditions like PTSD and panic attacks require professional treatment. Seeking help doesn’t contradict faith in God. Anxiety itself isn’t sinful, but letting it control us indicates a lack of dependence on the Holy Spirit. If your anxiety is debilitating, call a professional for help.

While the battle with anxiety is difficult, victory is possible in Christ’s power. He wants us to remember that He is with us and surrounds us on all sides. When we take His hand, He can pull us through whatever is causing our anxiety.

Picture a person trapped in a box of anxiety, ashamed of their feelings and fearing judgment for their uncontrollable emotions. Now imagine Jesus sitting right outside, holding the key to your freedom, waiting for you to invite Him into your turmoil. And see your loved ones offering support. The battle with anxiety belongs to God, and He can use others to help us win.

Jesus, I’m so glad I don’t fight this battle alone. I acknowledge my need for Your strength because this war makes me feel so weak. I trust You with my today and my tomorrows because I know You are here and You are already there. It’s in Your mighty name that I pray. Amen.
