I’m not much of a scientist, but I do know that nature contains some pretty intricate and amazing things. From the uniqueness of each snowflake to the grandeur of the Rocky Mountains, each structure shows the care of a thoughtful Creator. We can witness God in the beauty around us every day, whether we’re old-Earthers or young-Earthers, we cannot lose sight of the fact that God created.

Here are just four of the ways I enjoy witnessing God in the beauty around me. Maybe you’ll find enjoyment in them as well.

A newborn Black baby helps us witness God in the beauty around us.

Witnessing God’s Care in a New Baby

There’s nothing like it. When my babies were first handed to me by the doctor who delivered them, I was overwhelmed. I don’t remember if I cried, but it was a divine moment. With my firstborn, we had lost a pregnancy after trying for several years to get pregnant, so the moment he was born, I felt God’s grace.

But no matter whose baby it is, a newborn radiates the goodness and kindness of God. Knowing how many processes must fall exactly into place for a baby to even be born, there’s no doubt God is there. Psalm 139:13-14 says, “For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well.”

I know things don’t always go right. Babies are born with serious medical issues. But every single child is precious in God’s sight, and He’s right there holding that baby in His hands. And you can see His face in each one.

A spectacular Central Florida sunset helps us witness God in the every day.

Seeing God’s Glory in a Vivid Sunset

Living in Florida, I often see amazing sunsets. We frequently experience afternoon thunderstorms in the summer, but if the clouds cooperate, the way the color blazes off them as the sun sinks is truly awe inspiring. Psalm 113:3 says, “From the rising of the sun to its setting, the name of the Lord is to be praised!” Taking a few moments to enjoy a beautiful sunset always reminds me of the majesty of God.

Emerald Bay surrounded by the Sierra Mountains in the winter bear witness to God's majesty.

Beholding God’s Majesty in the Mountains

I have been able on many occasions to spend time in the mountains. I was raised in Northern California, and the Sierras were not very far away. My family would spend a week each summer at a cabin near Lake Tahoe. To this day the smell of pine trees takes me back to that cabin. My husband was raised near the Blue Ridge Mountains, so we make the trip to North Carolina whenever we can because we really do witness God in the beauty around us. We’ve also spent many wonderful days hiking in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado.

Although my experience has been limited to America’s mountains, I know many other countries boast majestic mountain ranges. Even just looking at pictures can bring peace to my heart. Psalm 76:4 (NIV) says, “You are radiant with light, more majestic than mountains rich with game.” I know they’re mighty, but they’re also nurturing and strong. Mountains have a special way of showing us God.

Members of an orchestra play their violins helping people witness God through music.

Hearing God’s Voice in Music

Although, unlike the rest of my family, I do not have music playing nearly 24/7, there’s almost always a song running through my head. I’ve loved to sing since I was young, and I have led worship at my various churches through the years, as well as at my college Christian fellowship group. Some music is just for fun, like the kids’ classics we played for our young children, but other music can stir my soul.

Psalm 150 urges us to praise the Lord in song:

Praise the Lord.
Praise God in his sanctuary;
praise him in his mighty heavens.
Praise him for his acts of power;
    praise him for his surpassing greatness.

Praise him with the sounding of the trumpet,
    praise him with the harp and lyre,
praise him with timbrel and dancing,
    praise him with the strings and pipe,
praise him with the clash of cymbals,
    praise him with resounding cymbals.

Let everything that has breath praise the Lord.
Praise the Lord.

We attended a wedding earlier this year in a church that had an amazing pipe organ. I love singing modern worship songs like “I Speak Jesus.” A well-played piano piece has the power to bring tears to my eyes. These are all different genres, but I witness God’s beauty in all of them. As the ultimate Creator, God inspires all that is created for His glory.
