I love home-improvement shows. Especially the ones that take totally decrepit houses and turn them into stunning homes. It reminds me of the transformational work that God does in our lives. No matter what you’ve done, no matter how run down you might feel, God is in the fixer-upper business! But He works from the inside out. He doesn’t just slap a coat of paint on us to make us look good. His transformation goes deep into our hearts. Pray this prayer for transformation with me today and watch God work in your life.

And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit.

2 Corinthians 3:18
A woman's hand in black and white reaches toward a mirror, remind us to pray a prayer for transformation.

Dear God, no matter how hard I try, I can’t change myself. I keep going back to old habits and mindsets. You are the only one who can change me. So, scary as it might be, I’m asking You to create in me a new heart. Make me more like Jesus.

I know that means cutting away everything that doesn’t look like Him. I know it probably means giving up some things that I have found very comfortable. Probably too comfortable. But calm seas don’t make a good sailor.

So use Your Word in my life to transform me. Take away my toxic thoughts and retrain my brain to see what is good, pure, lovely, and worthy of praise. Where I have bad habits, strengthen me to form new ones. Where I feel weak, Lord You are strong.

As I give the Holy Spirit access to every corner of my life, sweep away the cobwebs, pull out the termite-infested wood, and transform the dark spaces into light, and life, and loveliness. I know I’m asking for something that is going to be painful, but I know it will be worth it. Thank you for your gentle kindness to me.

It’s in the name of Jesus that I pray, amen.
