Do you want to see Jesus?
Bartimaeus was a blind beggar sitting on the road outside Jericho. As Jesus and His disciples passed by, he cried out for help. The people around him tried to quiet him, but he only shouted louder.
Jesus heard his cry. And Jesus saw him. Mark 10:51-52 tells us:
“’What do you want me to do for you?” Jesus asked. ‘My Rabbi,’ the blind man said, ‘I want to see!’ And Jesus said to him, ‘Go, for your faith has healed you.’ Instantly the man could see, and he followed Jesus down the road.

Sometimes we are willfully blind—we don’t see things because we don’t want to see them.
Because we know they’ll ask us to change, and we don’t want to change.
When we ask for eyes to see Him, God heals our blindness and gives us sight again. Often, that renewed sight shows us our sins. But if you confess your sins, God is faithful to forgive them. God forgives you, heals you, and makes you new.
When Jesus restores the blind man’s vision, Bartimaeus immediately begins to follow Jesus down the road. Having his sight restored changes his life in more than one way. It calls him to deeper faith and greater faithfulness in following Jesus.
The apostle Paul prayed regularly for people to have their spiritual vision restored and strengthened. Listen to his prayer in Ephesians chapter 1.
“I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people, and his incomparably great power for us who believe.”
Jesus is ready to open your eyes… and to lead you on the right path.
Jesus, Once, I was blind — but You gave me sight. You opened my eyes. You saved me. And I need You to keep opening my eyes—to keep rescuing me from the sin that blinds me to Your reality, to keep expanding my vision of You and Your work in the world. Open my eyes again. Help me to see You—and then to follow You. It’s in Your name I pray. Amen.
