The Happiest Life: A Daily Meditation

Living a righteous life is far from dull or mundane. It’s not just about avoiding negative things; it’s about actively doing good. Some Bible translations use the word “happy” instead of “blessed.” So about the happy or blessed life, Psalm 119:2 says:

“Blessed are those who keep His statutes and seek Him with all their heart.”

Psalm 119:2, New International Version

People like Mother Teresa, Dietrich Bonhoeffer, and missionaries Jim and Elisabeth Elliot showed this by leading adventurous, purposeful lives through wholeheartedly seeking God and His will.

Embracing a life of radical devotion to God begins by pursuing Him passionately, viewing Him as the ultimate treasure. This pursuit involves spiritual practices such as reading the Bible and prayer. Interestingly, happiness transforms when you seek God—it shifts from being tied to comfort to being defined by eternal purpose.

A life dedicated to God isn’t boring; it’s one of daring commitment—a path to true joy and fulfillment. In John 14, Jesus consoles His confused and anxious disciples by telling them not to be troubled. He emphasizes that those who truly love Him will follow and uphold His teachings, leading to the Father’s love and a divine presence within them.

Devoting yourself to loving and serving Jesus isn’t always smooth sailing, yet it’s anything but dull. It doesn’t confine you to a simplistic, morally upright life; instead, it opens doors to experiencing life in its richest form. By prioritizing a relationship with God, you embark on a thrilling journey filled with purpose and satisfaction.

God of Wisdom, You have planned a way for me that leads to the best life. This way is not always the easiest way, but You shape me and teach me more when You challenge me. Show me how to keep Your commands, dear God. Show me how to chase after You with my whole heart. Transform my mind and my desires so that they reflect Yours. And let me live a life that matters, a life of reckless abandon for You and Your kingdom. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
