If you struggle with confidence, you’re not alone. Social media raises the comparison game to high levels and can take a toll on our self-esteem. However, when you go on a journey to realizing your God-given value, you can reclaim your confidence based on what God says about you.

Realizing Your God-Given Value

Realizing your God-given value is possible when you meditate on Scriptures that expose the lies you may believe about yourself. You can replace those lies with the truth of God’s Word, which rebuilds your confidence over time.

Though I have been a Christian all my life, I didn’t have a daily Bible reading habit in place until I was a young mother. God used the truth in His Word to show me the lies I had been believing about my self-worth. As a teen I had struggled with depression and unresolved trauma, which sent messages that I wasn’t good enough. But by reading God’s Word, my thinking started to change, and I began realizing the high value God placed on me.

Scriptures to Help You Realize Your God-Given Value

Certain Scriptures helped me see my great value in God’s eyes. Meditating on them repeatedly helped retrain my thoughts and put me on the journey toward reclaiming my confidence. These were my favorite verses:

 Psalm 139:13-14, English Standard Version

For you formed my inward parts;
    you knitted me together in my mother’s womb.
I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.
Wonderful are your works;
    my soul knows it very well.”

Psalm 139 as a whole is very affirming of our value in God’s eyes. It shows that He loved us before we were even born and created us with great care. It’s a great place to begin our journey of healing in Scripture.

Romans 8:1, English Standard Version

There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.”

In my lack of self-esteem, I often condemned myself through the voice of a harsh inner critic. In my journey to realizing my God-given value, I often stated this verse out loud to silence the lies and lean into the truth of my value in Christ.

1 Peter 2:9, English Standard Version

But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.”

As believers, we are welcomed into God’s forever family. It was healing for me to grasp the concept that God chose me and valued me as His own possession, especially because others had rejected me. I knew God’s claim on me was only possible through the death and resurrection of Jesus, and that fact gave me great worth.

Reclaim Your Confidence

Once you have meditated on favorite verses that help you realize your God-given value, you can start to reclaim your confidence. Here are some practical ways you can reclaim your confidence through consistent meditation.

  • Meditate every morning. If you spend a few minutes each morning meditating on a verse that gives you confidence, you’ll carry it with you throughout the day. A good one to boost your confidence is this: “God is in the midst of her; she shall not be moved; God will help her when morning dawns” (Psalm 46:5, ESV).
  • Declare the truth to yourself. Before you head into a situation that threatens your confidence, you can restate God’s Word out loud as a declaration. An example from Psalm 118:6 might sound like this: “I am not afraid because I trust in God—no one can come against me, because He is at my side!”
  • Pray God’s Word back to Him. Recreating God’s Word back into a prayer is a powerful practice. You could transform Philippians 4:13 into a prayer like this: “Lord, I trust that I can do all things through You because You give me strength. I pray You will give me strength in my situation today.”

Use these examples with your favorite verses. They will help you reclaim your confidence on your journey to realizing your God-given value.
